Fetal Development Timeline

  4 Weeks
The fertilised egg, now known as an embryo has now implanted into your uterine wall.  Once implanted the embryo begins to devide into two: the epiblast and the hypoblast, from which all of the organs and body parts will develop.  Two other structures that develop at this time are the amnion and the yolk sac. The amnion, filled with amniotic fluid, will surround and cushion the growing embryo. The yolk sac will produce blood and help to nourish the embryo until the placenta takes over.  Your baby is the size of a poppy seed.
